Welsh club the Ospreys are said to be targeting Blues utility back Isa Nacewa and according to This is Swansea he is one of several players the region have spoken to as they look to build for next season.

The 25-year-old is amongst the most highly rated players in New Zealand but is ineligible to play for the All Blacks because of a one-minute appearance as a replacement for Fiji against Scotland in the 2003 World Cup.

A standout performer for the Blues last year, Nacewa can play with equal skill at fly-half, centre, wing and full-back where he has featured this year.

He was on the shortlist for New Zealand’s player of the year for 2007 and has also been targeted by Toulon.

Nacewa has fought to have his Kiwi eligibility restored but the IRB have refused to budge.

A consequence of his being ineligible for the All Black’s is that the Auckland-born player is paid less than many team-mates of lesser experience and ability which makes him an easier target for European sides.
