Welsh Rugby club the Scarlets has revealed that are targeting Crusaders winger Johnny McNicholl as a key signing for the West Wales club next season.

McNicholl has been in top form for the Crusaders this season and his three tries in four starts have caught the eye of the Scarlets Kiwi head coach Wayne Pivac.

The former Auckland coach Pivac has revealed to the South Wales Evening Post that he has already spoken to McNicholl about him signing for the Scarlets.

“He is someone who has been mentioned (in the media), but there are other players along with him who I have spoken to,” Pivac told the paper.

“We haven’t finalised our squad for next season, but we are not far off. We are hoping to announce one or two others before the season finishes and the outside back is a position we are looking to fill.”

“We look at who we can bring in globally and then narrow it down,” said Pivac.

“We are looking at all competitions, not just for next season but the season after.”

Pivac has already signed four cap Springbok and former Bulls tight-head prop Werner Kruger for next season.
