The Western Force and the Queensland Reds have played each other 20 times in Super Rugby, the Reds have won 11, the Force nine games.

The Reds are undefeated this season, winning seven from seven, while the Force has only won three Super Rugby games from seven – it’s first versus third.

  • The Queensland Reds have won each of their three Super Rugby AU games against the Western Force, after winning only two of their 10 meetings prior in Super Rugby (D1, L7).
  • The Force have won each of their last two Super Rugby matches – each by a margin of one point; they will be aiming for three wins in succession for just the third time in club history (W5 – March to April in 2014 and W3 in March 2007).
  • Western Force has scored the opening try of the game only once in their last four home games in Super Rugby; all four of those games were won by the team to log the first try of the game on the day.
  • The Reds have scored 13 tries in the final quarter of their games in the 2021 Super Rugby AU campaign, the most of any team in the competition and more than twice as many as the Perth-based team (5).
  • Western Force duo Fergus Lee-Warner (10 carries, 10 tackles) and Kyle Godwin (10 carries, 13 tackles) are the only players to have made 10+ carries and 10+ tackles per game in the 2021 Super Rugby AU season.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick-off.

In the meantime, why not have a look at the match preview.

1.00: PEEEEP! We are underway in Perth, Western Australia. A win for the Western Force will guarantee a Super Rugby qualifying playoff berth against the Brumbies.

2.00: YELLOW CARD! OUCH! Tevita Kuridrani is off after a dangerous tip-tackle on Hunter Paisami. Kuridrani is very lucky that was not a red card. 0-0

3.00: Queensland has the penalty advantage, but nothing comes from the attack. Liam Wright, taking over the captaincy from James O’Connor, opts for a scrum – We have seen O’Connor take the points from these situations, in recent games.

5.00: TRY! Hunter Paisami steams onto a short pass and carries Tomás Cubelli and Jordan Olowofela with him over the line –  he ran over Domingo Miotti before reaching out to score. 0-5

5.00: CONVERSION! O’Connor adds the extras. 0-7

8.00: TRY! Jordan Olowofela intercepts Tate McDermott’s deflected pass off Miotti’s arm and speeds away to score from inside his own half. Bryce Hegarty was never catching the flyer. 5-7

9.00: CONVERSION! Domingo Miotti levels from out wide. 7-7

10.00: It’s all Reds at the moment.

11.00: TRY! Taniela Tupou, the try-scoring sensation, bounces off two tackles, slips Miotti, and races away from Cubelli and Jack McGregor, to score his fifth Super Rugby try of the campaign. That was stunning! 7-12

13.00: CONVERSION! The kick is good. 7-14

13.00: KURIDRANI RETURNS! The centre’s yellow card did not cost his side too much (seven net). 7-14

15.00: Jack McGregor almost with a calamitous mistake inside his in-goal area, but the Force clear the danger after Kyle Godwin is isolated.

16.00: Brandon Paenga-Amosa is pinged for not releasing after being tackled, the Force get away with one there, but they are under the pump.

19.00: Two penalties in quick succession allows O’Connor to kick to the corner.

20.00: Queensland botch another good chance at scoring with a poor lineout.

21.00: A massive scrum by the Queensland pack wins the visitors a kickable penalty outside the Force’s 22. Hegarty, however, kicks to the corner again.

23.00: YELLOW CARD! Toni Pulu goes to the bin for repeat infringements. Good defending by the hosts at the rolling maul, but they concede another penalty in the RED ZONE. Reds want a scrum. 7-14

27.00: Tim Anstee wins a turnover for the Western Force. Scrum to Tim Sampson’s men inside the Reds’ half.

30.00: Kuridrani smokes Paisami from the blindside with a huge hit. Paisami stays down for about a minute before slowly walking to the sideline for an HIA check.

33.00: Cubelli is taken out at the previous ruck allowing Miotti to kick at goal.

34.00: PENALTY! Miotti cuts the gap to 11. 10-21

37.00: It’s all Force at the moment, they are inside the red zone.

39.00: TRY! Miotti does not take a shot at goal. The Force go to their set-piece and after several phases, Feleti Kaitu’u crashed over the line. 15-21

40.00: MISS! Miotti cannot add the extras. 15-21

The halftime score was Western Force 15 Queensland Reds 21

41.00: PEEEEP! We are back underway in Perth.

42.00: YELLOW CARD! Jordan Petaia runs into Olowofela, who was jumping to take a high ball. That was not great by the Petaia. 15-21

45.00: There is a bit of niggle now as the Reds feel the pressure from the hosts.

47.00: TRY! Olowofela has a double. Miotti went close after Pulu’s midfield break into the 22. The ball looked to have been lost, but the TMO cannot be sure. 20-21

48.00: MISS! Miotti cannot convert. 20-21

52.00: A quick-tap penalty by McDermott comes to nothing; however, the Reds still had an advantage. Petaia is back on.

61.00: Olowofela runs from his 22 all the way to the opposition’s 22, but Jeremy Thrush could not hang on to the pass.

63.00: It’s end-to-end now, but the mistakes are starting to creep in by both teams as they look to play with abandon.

64.00: Big scrum by the visitors, who get the penalty for collapsing. Hegarty kicks to the corner.

65.00: Andrew Ready is offside at the maul, this time the Reds want a scrum.

73.00: A terrible mix-up between the Reds forwards and backs gives the Force possession inside their half.

75.00: HAT-TRICK! Olowofela latches onto Richard Kahui’s grubber and points to the fans before diving to score. 28-27

76.00: CONVERSION! Miotti adds the extras. 30-27

77.00: A mix-up by the Force sees the Reds get a penalty on the home team’s line. The Reds opted for a scrum, and not the points.
