OFM Sport reported on its website that former Vodacom Free State Cheetah fly-half, Willem de Waal, is on his way to Western Province.

De Waal, who has been playing rugby for the French second league outfit Narbonne. It is also a well known fact that De Waal was also on the wish list of Cheetah coach, Naka Drotske.

De Waal was the fly-half when the Cheetahs lifted the Currie Cup in 2005, 2006 and 2007 when both Drotsk and former Free State coach Rassie Erasmus were at the helm.

Should De Waal join Province he will be reunited with Erasmus and former Free State fitness trainer Jacques Nienaber.

However, it is uncertain if De Waal will be available for this year’s Currie Cup. De Waal is the second former Cheetah to join Province this month.

Former Bok prop Ollie le Roux is already in Cape Town and it is believed that he will wear the Western Province jersey in the Currie Cup after a very successful stint with the Irish club side, Leinster.
